# Portrait Direct output (/docs/portrait-direct-output)



Portrait Direct output turns one landscape contribution into two independent
platform outputs. The landscape destination keeps the original frame. The
portrait destination uses a manual 9:16 crop and its own relay forwarder.

## Add and frame portrait [#add-and-frame-portrait]

1. Authorize two Direct destinations and enable the landscape destination.
2. Choose **Add portrait output** beside another destination.
3. Move and resize the crop over the part of the landscape preview viewers
   should see. The portrait preview shows the resulting 9:16 frame.
4. Choose **Save framing**, then go live.

The crop is saved to that portrait destination. **Edit framing** changes the
next encode; a failed save keeps the editor open so you can retry. The controls
also work from a keyboard or accessibility input.

## Slots and failures [#slots-and-failures]

Landscape and portrait consume one forwarder slot each. Configuration is
allowed when the relay is full, with a warning. At Go Live, a full relay blocks
portrait but allows landscape to proceed. A failure or retry on one destination
does not stop the other.

Removing portrait stops using its slot. Use a different provider for portrait:
publishing two frames to the same account stream key would make the platform
disconnect one of them.
